The Artwork

I am a full time artist based in West London beside the River Thames. I create highly textured abstract pieces on canvas with shining metallic embellishment. My style is energetic and free flowing, I like the idea of movement and that nothing stands still and is always changing. Metallic paints are used in most of my work; again there is the idea of constant change as the metallics in the paintings look different in daylight or electric light and even when viewed from a different angle. I have always had a fascination with shiny, sparkly things, the effects of oil on water and metallic colours. In my days in fashion design I earned the name ‘Magpie' for my insistence on adding something shiny to every design whether it needed it or not!
My inspiration comes from many things but mostly from the natural world, the fury of the sea, the calm reflections of water, the delicacy of a summer bloom and the beauty of the underwater world. I love textures and surface interest and tactile, textile inspired artwork.

Much of my inspiration comes from the sea. As a child I was never happier than when walking on a sandy beach collecting shells and tiny jewelled pieces of glass worn smooth by the ocean. I loved to swim and watch the light bouncing off the moving surface of the water and listen to the surge of the waves. Many years later I fulfilled my mermaid dreams when I ventured beneath the waves during a holiday to the Caribbean. I discovered a whole new world of coral reefs and scuba diving became a passion and a rich source of inspiration for my artwork. This fascination with the sea and its many moods continues to this day and is reflected in much of my work.

I paint mostly from my imagination and from inspirational photographs that I take on my travels.
My paintings are in private and corporate collections of clients around the world.

About Me

I live surrounded by water and overlooking the world heritage site of Kew Botanical Gardens. My studio is set between the River Thames, the Brent River and The Grand Union Canal. I am daily facinated by the reflections of water and light and this is something I try to capture in my work with the many changing iridescent paints that I use.
I originally trained as a fashion designer at the University of the Arts London ( London College of Fashion) this gave me a grounding in life drawing, sculpture, textile design and various other art forms as well as the technical knowledge required to design garments. I went on to have a successful career in fashion design and my designs for prints & embroideries have been seen in many high street stores around the world. I believe my work in fashion has given me a good understanding of colour and textures and an ability to envisage how a painting will look in an interior setting.

I specialise in creating large or small individual pieces especially for your interior design. Please see my bespoke gallery for more.

Arrived safely, and it's absolutely beautiful. I love it and  I am sure it will be appreciated by all who see it. You are now one of only a very select number of artists from whom I have bought more than one painting.
Mr J.H. Surrey

We are really delighted with them. They are beautiful and can't wait to get them on display. Thank you so much for creating such stunning artwork for us. Thank you also for the fantastic service and keeping us updated throughout. I would highly recommend you.
Mr & Mrs R.D. Surrey
I received the painting on Friday, it is beautiful!
The aim was to hang in our bedroom but now it is on the wall in the living room. It looks perfect there, very happy!
Ms I.G. London

This is absolutely stunning! There is something about the movement and energy from this piece that I
absolutely love: I think looking at it everyday will motivate me! Thank you ever so much, it's absolutely
perfect and exactly the kind of thing I was looking for.
Ms N.Q. London
The triptych has arrived safely. It looks wonderful and I'm eager to get it put up in our first floor living room.
Not only have you created something we will enjoy, but you have been efficient and kept us in the loop all the way along.
It is very possible that we will commission something else in the future.
Mrs C. P. London
I found Oceanic on artgallery.co.uk and my heart skipped a beat - admittedly through anxiety
rather than attraction. Your painting made me feel something of the fear that I feel on the beach
before venturing out into a big surf with my tiny stick of a surfboard. Oceanic has found a good home,
it shall take pride of place in my living room in France.
Mr C.C. Sunderland
